Khammam: CPI (ML) Mass Line State secretary Potu Ranga Rao condemned the arrests of the party leaders by West Bengal police.

In a statement here on Wednesday, he said that CPI (ML) Mass Line West Bengal State secretary Alik Chakraborty and several other leaders were arrested by Kolkata Police.

The leaders were arrested as they planned to stage protests demanding to punish everyone connected with rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, 2024 as well as to stop the harassment of medicos who staged protests demanding justice to the victim after the incident.

The manner in which the West Bengal government as well as the police responded to the rape and murder of the trainee doctor was inhuman in nature. Public and people’s organisations across the country detested the government’s approach towards the case.

Doctors and people’s organisations have been staging protests in Kolkata for the past five months seeking serious action against the former principal of the State-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh and security to health workers, Ranga Rao said.

As part of that the CPI (ML) Mass Line leaders planned State-wide protests on Wednesday. The government with an objective to foil the protests resorted to the arrests of the leaders in an undemocratic manner. All the arrested leaders should be released forthwith, he demanded.
