Hyderabad: The State government has expedited steps for implementation of Dalit Bandhu scheme in the remaining 118 Assembly constituencies across the State. Accordingly, 100 SC families in each of the Assembly constituencies will be selected for grounding the scheme before end of March this year.

As per directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to take measures for implementation of the scheme across the State, SC Development Minister Koppula Eeshwar and Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar along with top officials held a video conference with the district collectors here on Saturday.


During the meeting, the officials were reminded that the scheme was already being implemented on a saturation basis in Huzurabad constituency apart from Vasalamarri village in Nalgonda district, following its launch last year. The scheme is also being implemented in Chintakani mandal of Khammam district, Tirumalagiri mandal of Suryapet district, Charagonda mandal of Nagarkurnool and Nizamsagar mandal of Kamareddy district. Each beneficiary will receive a one-time financial support of Rs 10 lakh under the scheme.

The district collectors were instructed to prepare an action plan for effective implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme by identifying the beneficiaries in consultation with the respective MLAs and get the list approved by the district in-charge Ministers. Each beneficiary will be allowed to chose a business, occupation or a self-employment unit as per their needs. The officials were asked to facilitate establishment of these units as well as encourage those beneficiaries who want to set up a business as a group.

Eeshwar pointed out that the State government has already allocated Rs 1,200 crore of which Rs 100 crore have been released. The remaining amount will be released into the accounts of the beneficiaries in a phased manner as and when their units are approved. “It is a revolutionary scheme and we must ensure that it succeeds as the Chief Minister is keen to bring a socio-economic change in the lives of Dalits,” he said.
