Hyderabad: The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on Monday issued a clarification following reports linking Vagdevi Laboratories, Cherlapalli, to a major mephedrone seizure case reported by the Maharashtra Police.
The DCA stated that Vagdevi Laboratories is a chemical factory, not a drug licence holder or a pharmaceutical company. Officials clarified that mephedrone is not a medicine and therefore does not fall under the regulatory purview of the DCA.
The matter comes entirely under the jurisdiction of enforcement authorities empowered under the NDPS Act, 1985, such as the Police Department, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and other Central or State enforcement agencies, it said.
Further, the DCA has neither the authority nor the mandate to initiate any action or investigation in this regard, the statement from the Joint Director of DCA Telangana said.
The clarification was issued to avoid misinterpretation and ensure accurate reporting on the matter.
