Telangana DGP Shivadhar Reddy asks auto drivers, motorists to follow road safety norms

Adilabad: Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy urged motorists to follow road safety norms, which could reduce road mishaps and casualties in accidents. He handed over documents of memberships and stickers to drivers who enrolled in the Abhaya, My Taxi is Safe 2.0 initiative, formally launched on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Shivadhar Reddy told the drivers to compulsorily follow road safety norms. He opined that following road safety rules could bring down not only accidents but also deaths caused by mishaps. He urged drivers to wear uniforms as it would fetch recognition from the public. The DGP asked motorcyclists to wear helmets. He told them not to drink and drive. He wanted motorists to fasten seat belts while travelling in four-wheelers. He stated that the ongoing ‘Arrive Alive’ programme was being conducted with a prime objective of reducing road mishaps across the State.
He later inaugurated a multi-storied complex built in memory of eleven policemen killed in an exchange of fire between police and banned Maoists at Alampalli in 1987, and 400 CCTV cameras installed at the command control centre. He also handed over appointment orders of government jobs to kin of police martyrs on compassionate grounds and ownership documents of house sites to surrendered Maoists in Adilabad town. He participated in an awareness programme on road safety held for sarpanches at Gudihathnoor mandal centre.
Shivadhar Reddy inaugurated a library created by the police and distributed helmets to youngsters at Chinchughat village. Setting his position aside, the head of the State police force had lunch with tribals of the village and gelled with locals. He was accorded a grand welcome by the residents. He promised to extend all support from the department to tribal youngsters.
He also inaugurated a purified water plant and a medical camp at remote Narsapur village in Utnoor mandal. He handed over sports kits to youngsters. He was joined by multi-zone IG S Chandrashekhar Reddy and SP Akhil Mahajan.
Additional SP Surender Rao, Additional SP (Administration) P Mounika, trainee IPS officer Rahul Kant, Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy, Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors were present.
