Hyderabad: Experts stressed the need for stronger collaboration among governments, industry and institutions to accelerate the deployment of cleaner technologies, improve energy efficiency and advance towards a sustainable, net-zero economy.

At the 25th CII Energy Efficiency Summit 2026 held in Hyderabad, the experts also stressed the urgency of adopting an integrated approach to address the growing economic and environmental consequences of climate change.

Recurring El Niño-related weather patterns, rising temperatures, heatwaves, floods in some regions and severe droughts in others were increasing pressure on economies and natural resources, underscoring the need for greater climate resilience, they observed.

The summit brought together policymakers, industry leaders, technology providers and energy-efficiency experts. They also acknowledged the initiatives of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Ministry of Power, in collaborating with State governments and industry in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Such partnerships, they noted, could help create a favourable ecosystem for the adoption of advanced industrial technologies and sustainable manufacturing practices, particularly among MSMEs.

The EESL roadmap is expected to contribute to lower operational and maintenance costs for MSMEs, enhance productivity and competitiveness, generate employment opportunities, promote efficient utilisation of energy and water resources, and encourage cleaner production practices.

EESL, which has played a major role in national initiatives such as the LED Street Lighting Programme and UJALA, has also identified Telangana and the Hyderabad metropolitan region as important areas for facilitating the adoption of globally proven technologies in the MSME sector.

Telangana’s MSME ecosystem is a vital pillar of the State’s economy, with more than 2.6 million MSME units and a large employment base.

The adoption of energy-efficient and cleaner technologies across this sector can therefore have significant implications for productivity, competitiveness, employment generation and environmental sustainability.

KC Panigrahy, Director General, BEE; Milind Deore, Secretary, BEE; Aravind Talan, Head – Finance, EESL; Tejpreet Singh Chopra, Chairman, CII Energy Efficiency Summit; Ravi Chandran Purushothaman, Chairman, CII Southern Region; and others addressed the summit.

On behalf of Akhilesh Kumar Dixit, CEO, EESL, Aravind Talan, Head – Finance, EESL, made a presentation outlining the future impact of EESL’s energy-efficiency programmes on economic and environmental sustainability.
