Hyderabad: Four distinct police commissionerates created
Hyderabad’s policing structure is being overhauled with four new commissionerates—Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City—while Yadadri-Bhongir becomes a separate district unit. The revamp addresses urban expansion, population growth, and specialised policing across IT, industrial, suburban, and emerging city zones
Hyderabad: The policing structure in and around Hyderabad is being revamped by creating four distinct police commissionerates – Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City Police Commissionerates, replacing the earlier framework that included the Rachakonda Commissionerate.
Officials said the move was necessitated by urban expansion, growing population density, and the need for specialised policing in different zones.
The Hyderabad Commissionerate will focus on core city areas and sensitive installations, including major government offices and vital infrastructure like the RGIA. The Cyberabad Commissionerate will oversee prominent IT corridors and industrial zones that have emerged as major economic hubs.
The erstwhile Rachakonda Commissionerate has been reorganised and renamed as the Malkajgiri Commissionerate, covering several eastern and northeastern suburbs of the city.
At the same time, Yadadri-Bhongir was taken out of the commissionerate system and made a separate district police unit, headed by an IPS officer in the Superintendent of Police rank.
New Police Commissionerates: Areas / Key Features Covered
Hyderabad Commissionerate:
Areas already covered and core city areas, State Assembly, Secretariat, major institutions, RGIA airport zone and other sensitive locations
Cyberabad Commissionerate:
IT corridors and industrial hubs such as Gachibowli, Financial District, Madhapur, Raidurg, Patancheru, and Genome Valley
Malkajgiri Commissionerate:
Suburban and eastern areas including Malkajgiri, Uppal, Nacharam, Ghatkesar, Medipally, Keesara, and surrounding localities
Future City Commissionerate:
Emerging and planned urban development zones on the city outskirts
Yadadri-Bhongir District (Separate Unit)
Functioning independently as a district police unit under an SP
