Telangana girl gets a shot at world athletics
A student of intermediate second-year MPC at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Junior College, Narsingi, Nandini finished the 100-m hurdle in 13.96 seconds while the qualified mark was 14.15 seconds.
Hyderabad: A tea seller’s daughter, Agasara Nandini has made her way into the World Junior Athletics Championship by bagging gold medal at the 19th National Federation Cup Junior Athletics Championship held at Sangrur in Punjab on Sunday.
A student of intermediate second-year MPC at Telangana Social Welfare Residential Junior College, Narsingi, Nandini finished the 100-m hurdle in 13.96 seconds while the qualified mark was 14.15 seconds.
She will now make an international debut in the World Junior Athletics Championship to be held at Nairobi, Kenya, from August 17 to 22.
“This win has boosted my confidence and my resolve to make it to the international competitions grew much stronger. This achievement makes me work harder and realise the ultimate goal of winning an Olympic medal one day,” an elated Nandini said.
Earlier, Nandini clinched 14 gold medals at the State level and 14 medals, including eight gold, four silver and two bronze, at the national level in 100m hurdle and long jump. She also won the Best National Athlete Award in the junior category.
Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society secretary Ronald Rose termed Nandini’s win as a turning point in her career and a milestone in the history of the Society.
