Hyderabad: Youngsters in a few villages are now honing their skills in different trades of construction for free under the State Government’s ‘Unnati’ programme.
The Rural Development department in association with National Academy of Construction (NAC) is conducting free training programmes in welding, painting, electrical, plumbing and masonry to help people, especially youngsters in rural areas in improving their employability or setting up self-employment units.
The special training programme was launched by the department under the Employment Generation and Marketing Mission in December last year.
The idea was to facilitate youngsters learn different skills, especially in the above said fields as there is lot of requirement for skilled manpower in different construction companies, said an official from Rural Development department.
While, experts from NAC conduct the training programmes, trainees are paid a stipend of Rs.260 a day for three months. This apart, they are provided free food and accommodation.
Soon after completion of the training programmes, candidates are provided placements in different construction companies. Persons or youngsters, who worked for 100 days under the MNREGAs are being identified for the training programmes, said an official from NAC.
A special team has been constituted to mobilise candidates for the Unnati programme. So far, under this initiative, 150 candidates have been enrolled in different categories at Hyderabad and Jagityal Centres of NAC.
These training programmes are conducted at all the NAC centres across the State and trainees have the option of undergoing enrolling at the desired centres.
Following the instructions of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister E Dayakar Rao, the Rural Development department has set a target of training at least 2,000 trainees from all the districts. Towards this, an action plan has been prepared to train 1,000 trainees by this year.
After successful completion of training for the 1000 trainees, enrollment of other trainees will be done through the Unnati portal at district and mandal level.
