GP elections in erstwhile Adilabad see high voter turnout amid chilly weather
Polling in 439 panchayats across erstwhile Adilabad district saw high turnout on Thursday despite severe cold conditions. Mancherial, Nirmal, Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Adilabad districts recorded over 75% voting, with officials reporting a peaceful first phase of elections

Adilabad: Despite chilly weather conditions, voters formed long queues to cast their votes as polling went off smoothly in 439 panchayats notified for polls in the first phase across erstwhile Adilabad district on Thursday.
Officials said that Mancherial district registered 80.01 per cent of voting, while Kumram Bheem Asifabad district saw 79.81 per cent of polling. Nirmal district recorded 80.42 per cent of voting and Adilabad district accounted for 75.25 per cent voting. Officials and police heaved a sigh of relief as no untoward incident was reported in the four districts.
As many as 133 panchayats of Adilabad district went for polls in the first phase, while 81 villages in Mancherial, 119 panchayats in Nirmal and 106 villages of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district saw polls. As many as 1,656 contestants are in the fray for the post of Sarpanch. A total of 5,695 candidates contested in 1,865 wards that witnessed the polls in the four districts.
Incidentally, Ginnedhari village in Tiryani mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district saw the lowest minimum temperature of 5.4 degrees Celsius in Telangana, while Arli (T) village in Bheempur mandal of Adilabad district recorded 6.1 degrees C. Several other parts of erstwhile Adilabad district witnessed freezing cold weather conditions.
