Hyderabad: Justice J. Srinivas Rao of the Telangana High Court on Wednesday heard a petition filed by Telugu Bigg Boss fame Ashu Reddy (Venkata Ashwini Reddy Koyya) seeking to quash criminal proceedings initiated against her by the Central Crime Station (CCS) police.

The case arises from a complaint lodged by the father of one Dharmendra, a software engineer based in London, alleging that the petitioner had misappropriated an amount of Rs. 9.35 crore on the false promise of marriage. Based on the said complaint, the CCS police registered a case against the petitioner and her family members.

The petitioner contended that the allegations in the complaint, even if taken at face value, do not disclose the commission of any cognizable offence. It was specifically argued that the amounts allegedly paid by the complainant were not obtained through any fraudulent inducement, but were voluntarily given as an inducement to secure her consent for marriage.

She maintained that neither she nor her family members could be held criminally liable for such expenditure. Upon a request made by the Assistant Public Prosecutor, Mr. Jitender Rao, seeking time to gather necessary details, the Court, while taking note of the submissions, directed the APP to obtain complete instructions and place the relevant material on record. The Court adjourned the matter to the 4th of next month for further consideration.
