Telangana: Kavitha demands separate Bills for BC reservations, accuses Congress of deception
The BRS leader has sought 46 per cent reservations for BCs in education and jobs through two separate Bills, and a separate Bill for 42 per cent reservations in local bodies
Jangaon: BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruti founder K Kavitha has demanded that the Congress government introduce three separate Bills in the Legislative Assembly to ensure BC reservations in education, employment, and political representation. She warned that bundling all BC-related issues into a single Bill and merely forwarding it to the Centre would be a betrayal of the backward classes.
Speaking to mediapersons at Pembarthi in Jangaon district on Thursday, Kavitha pointed out discrepancies in BC population estimates, stating that the K Chandrashekhar Rao government’s survey pegged BCs at 51 per cent, whereas the Congress government’s figures have reduced it to 46 per cent.
Based on this, she demanded 46 per cent reservations for BCs in education and jobs through two separate Bills, and a separate Bill for 42 per cent reservations in local bodies, as promised in the Kamareddy Declaration by the Congress.
She also feared that the Congress government is deliberately delaying local body elections by announcing plans to introduce the BC reservation Bill, expecting it to be entangled in legal disputes. “The State government cannot dust off its hands by introducing the Bill in the Assembly and forwarding it to the Centre. It must take measures to conduct the local body polls, immediately, to prevent any court cases,” she said.
Meanwhile, the BRS MLC stated that Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced another round of caste census, and wanted the State government to give wide publicity to ensure that all those who missed out the survey, register themselves. She said the announcement of the BC reservation Bill is a first victory, urging BC leaders and intellectuals to continue the fight until comprehensive implementation.
Kavitha recalled Telangana Jagruti’s past struggles, including the installation of the Ambedkar statue in the Assembly 13 years ago and its fight for BC reservations. She charged the Congress with making false promises and insisted that the struggle for the BC reservations Bill must continue. She also demanded the development of Pembarthi as a tourist hub and a handicrafts centre.
