Adilabad: One of the many benefits that accrued after the formation of a separate state was the unprecedented transformation of libraries which used to be in ruined conditions. The facilities are now equipped with a many books and a wide range of amenities for the convenience of visitors. They have, in particular, become reliable destinations to job seekers.
The erstwhile Adilabad district has 57 libraries which contain 4.79 lakh books, helping the candidates to prepare for appearing examinations, an important stage of recruitment of various government jobs. While Adilabad district accounts for 18 libraries, Nirmal and Mancherial have 16 and 14 libraries respectively. Kumram Bheem Asifabad district houses nine libraries.
Libraries undergo makeover
In a welcoming sign, the State government appointed district chairmen of libraries and earmarked sufficient funds to develop them enabling the chairmen to renovated them. They, with the help of local MLAs strove hard to improve infrastructure of the libraries and to roll out new facilities such as provision of coaching to aspirants of jobs.
For instance, around Rs 11 crore were sanctioned to the libraries corporation through District Mineral Fund Trust (DMFT) and Rs 25 lakh from the government so far. A new library was built in the heart of Bellampalli town at a cost of Rs 75 lakh. A similar facility was created in Chennur town, at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore. Another skill-development centre-cum library is under construction in Mandamarri.
Similarly, Rs 3.70 crore was granted to develop a library located in Adilabad district centre. Funds of Rs 1.50 crore were sanctioned to establish a new library in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district headquarters. A spacious hall was built on the premises of district library in Nirmal for the convenience of the jobseekers. An e-library is planned to be sete up in Nirmal, spending Rs 1.50 crore soon.
Libraries cum study centres
The libraries are now considered as study centres and skill-development centres for giving coaching and training in certain occupations for free. Some of the libraries are planning to rope in experts from Hyderabad and are going to provide lunch to the aspirants, following the government’s decision to recruit 80,039 posts lying vacant with various departments. A few of them are equipped with air-conditioned reading rooms. They have reading rooms exclusively for women.
Ambedkar study circle, a ray of hope for unemployed
The Dr BR Ambedkar Study Circle, established by libraries corporation on the premises of Mancherial district centre’s library in 2017 become a ray of hope to unemployed youngsters and students, who were in the past struggling in preparing for competitive examinations. It has a dedicated AC reading room.
It is thronged by hundreds of aspirants belonging not only to the town, but also neighboring Mandamarri, Ramakrishnapur, Srirampur, Chennur, Luxettipet and scores of surrounding villages. The candidates were migrating to Karimnagar, Warangal and Hyderabad cities for undergoing coaching in the past.
The circle is equipped with computers and 600 books meant for aspirants of government jobs. Experienced and prominent experts are being hired for offering quality coaching to aspirants of employment opportunities in the government sector, besides supplying relevant books for free of cost. Significantly, as many as 121 candidates cracked jobs by undergoing coaching so far.
