Hyderabad: An engineering course student landed behind the bars after he tried to get even with a woman by posting her photos on a fake Facebook account ostensibly soliciting customers in Joguamba Gadwal district of Telangana.

The arrested man had claimed to be angry with the woman, after she quarreled with his mother, police said quoting his confession statement.

The arrested man identified as Giriraj (25), residing near Alampur Chowrasta was taken into custody after a painstaking investigation into the cyber harassment case. Giriraj was alleged to have posted some photos of the woman, a home maker with the message that she would spend time with customers for monetary consideration. He had also uploaded photos of her husband, in-laws and children too just to given an impression that the Facebook account was genuine.

The woman approached the police after she got many calls from strangers. The Gadwal police registered a case and then began long haul investigation, that was often frustrating for the cyber cell officials. The cyber cell issued a notice to the Facebook under the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure and some time later they received some information which could help the investigators identify the computer or a phone from which the photos were uploaded. Armed with the information, the investigators then approached the mobile phone operators and finally managed to get the mobile phone from which the Facebook account created and photos uploaded.

The next milestone in the investigation was to locate the phone and armed with the information given by the mobile phone company information, it was an easy job to locate Giriraj and take him into custody. Giriraj told the interrogators that he was angry with the woman as she quarelled with his mother. The accused and the complainant in the case lived in the same locality. When the women’s children sought his help to configure the zoom app to attend the online classes, he handled the woman’s phone on the pretext of helping them, but had also transferred some photos from the phone to his phone. Later he created a fake facebook account and posted messages.

Giriraj now faces the prospect of a jail term for three years to five years under the provisions of the IPC and Information Act. Gadwal DSP A Yadagiri supervised the investigation.
