Hyderabad: The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department has decided to initiate action against people who resort to cruelty against animals, specially the illegal dog breeders.
A deadline of four weeks has been given to illegal dog breeders to get themselves registered with the Telangana State Animal Welfare Board (TSAWB). The details will be submitted to the government by August 15.
MAUD principal secretary Arvind Kumar on Saturday wrote a letter to principal secretary Industries and IT, Jayesh Ranjan and GHMC Commissioner, DS Lokesh Kumar seeking their assistance to execute the task. He asked them to ensure the activities by dog breeders comply with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Rules 2017 notified by the Central Government.
He also asked them to create awareness among people involved in dog breeding activities so that they register with TSAWB and comply with the norms mentioned in it. Jayesh Ranjan and Lokesh Kuamar were informed that the breeders have a deadline of four weeks to register themselves.
Arvind Kumar mentioned that selling and buying puppies without a valid permission by posting advertisements on social media platforms was a violation and such activities should be stopped immediately.
To perform the task, officials of TSAWB, Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA), three police commissionerate- Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda – were asked to take stringent action on illegal dog breeders.
The action taken report by line departments should be submitted to the government on August 15. Earlier in June, the MAUD department warned people running unregistered pet stores in the city.
