Mancherial: Staffers of Mancherial Municipal Corporation drew flak for reportedly locking a house for defaulting property tax here on Saturday. A video clip of the incident went viral on social media platforms on Sunday.

Led by manager Vijay Kumar, four staffers of the civic body allegedly locked the house of a taxpayer for delaying the payment of the property tax for 5 years. The irate payer picked up an argument with the staffers and expressed his inability to pay the tax for now. He told the staffers he would clear the tax by March 31, the deadline.

It was learnt that the staffers were harassing the taxpayers by locking houses and throwing utensils as the deadline was approaching fast. They staged a sit-in on the premises of a taxpayer in the town recently, embarrassing him and his family members. The officials received criticism for forcibly collecting the property tax in Chennur and other civic bodies of the district.
