Telangana: New Vice-Chancellors get into action mode

Set their priorities; to focus on recruiting staff, research and others

Hyderabad: Newly-appointed Vice-Chancellors in the State universities have set their priorities on track with a focus on recruiting staff, further strengthening academics, research, and development besides, introducing new courses. The State government has already permitted recruitment to 1,061 teaching posts in the 11 universities. Of these, OU has a major share with 415 posts, including 294 assistant professors and 121 associate professor cadre. However, there are no posts for recruitment to professor cadre. Newly-appointed Osmania University Vice-Chancellor Prof D Ravinder Yadav who has rich experience in teaching and administration is ready with a 21-point plan to develop the varsity.

“The 21-point plan includes improving academics, research, infrastructure, and hostel facilities among others. There are plans to constitute a committee for each point. As per the recommendations of the committee and taking the Executive Council into confidence, it will be implemented for the development of the varsity. We will also focus on recruiting teaching staff,” Prof Yadav said. He would also look into giving promotions under Career Advancement Scheme to all eligible teachers which were pending for the last two years.


Prof Ch Gopal Reddy who has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda, will be taking charge on Monday. “The State government has already permitted the university for recruitment and emphasis will be on the same. Given the Covid-19 pandemic situation, we will strengthen the online classes,” Prof Gopal Reddy said.

Prof T Kishan Rao who has taken charge as the Vice-Chancellor of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University on Sunday said he has inquired about the issues in the university besides taking suggestions from the staff. “The university is facing a shortage of teaching staff and we will be focusing on recruitment. Efforts will be made to shift the present campus to a new campus in Bachupally for newly admitted students in the academic year 2021-22. There are plans to introduce new courses which have prominence in the market besides help students find a job or make them self-employable,” Prof Kishan Rao said. Prof K Seetharama Rao, who has been appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Dr BR Ambedkar Open University assumed charge on the campus on Sunday.
