Hyderabad: In a concerning trend, Telangana was ranked last among large and mid-sized States in the Consumer Justice Ranking 2026, according to the India Justice Report (IJR), which was released on Wednesday.
The report highlighted that, as of 2025, there was no president in the Telangana State Commission and there was a 25 per cent vacancy among presidents in the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (DCDRC).
Only 12 district commissions were present across 33 districts in the State. This was far from the mandate of establishing at least one dedicated DRC in every district. Nearly 1,000 days were required to dispose of a case at the State Commission, nearly six times the stipulated time.
However, the Telangana State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (SCDRC) has no shortfall in members and the State was among only four States to have zero vacancy among SCDRC members.
As per the report, one in every four cases filed with the SCDRC related to the housing sector. The other top sectors were insurance (21 per cent) and agriculture (15 per cent).
About 74 per cent of cases filed during this period took more than a year to be disposed of. On average, Telangana’s SCDRC took 974 days to dispose of a case, far from the stipulated time of 90 to 150 days, it said.
Further, 61 per cent of cases filed in the State’s DCDRCs took more than a year for disposal, with 44 per cent taking more than 20 hearings. The average case disposal time for Telangana’s DCDRCs is 669 days, it said.
