Telangana records 23 per cent rainfall deficit in first 12 days of monsoon
Telangana has recorded a 23 per cent rainfall deficit between June 1 and June 12, according to TGDPS data. Several districts, including Jagtial, Hanumakonda and Vikarabad, reported significant shortfalls, raising concerns over the slow start to the monsoon season

Hyderabad: The initial rainfall data, ever since the onset of monsoons in Telangana, looks worrisome. While it may appear a bit early, given that monsoons last for four months, in the past 12-days, the monsoons in Telangana are off to a very slow start.
According to the rainfall data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TSDPS), between June 1 and June 12, the state-wide average rainfall stands at 31.1 mm against a normal expectation of 40.2 mm, which is a deficit of 23 percent.
The rainfall from TGDPS data indicates the deficit isn’t just a minor blip, it is widespread, as major urban and agricultural hubs are experiencing a large deficit ranging from 60 percent to 80 percent.
The districts with large rainfall deficits include Jagtial (80 percent), Hanumakonda (75 percent), Vikarabad (73 percent), Mahabubnagar (73 percent), and Siddipet (70 percent).
The deficit (20 percent to 30 percent) rainfall districts include Adilabad (47 percent), Kumuram Bheem Asifabad (37 percent), and Medak (46 percent). The districts that have received normal rainfall include Khammam (72 percent) and Bhadradri Kothagudem (59 percent).
Deficit: Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Jayashankar, Mahabubabad, Karimnagar, Rajanna Sircilla, Sangareddy, Medak, Jangaon, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nagarkurnool, Narayanpet, Jagtial, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Siddipet, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Jogulamba Gadwal, and Wanaparthy
Normal: Nirmal, Kamareddy, Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Mulugu.
Excess: Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam
