Telangana releases Rs 73.5 cr for handlooms
To ensure institutional and structural development of the sector, says KTR

Hyderabad: The State government on Tuesday released Rs 73.5 crore towards implementation of different schemes for welfare of handlooms and ancillary workers in the State. Handlooms Minister KT Rama Rao said Telangana government was taking measures to ensure institutional and structural development of handlooms sector by implementing different State-sponsored scheme.
At a review meeting with handloom department officials here, the Minister said following the implementation of different programmes by the State government, monthly income of handloom and ancillary workers had been increased, besides improving their living standards.
Last month, handloom workers had made some recommendations to the Minister. Accordingly, he had conducted a meeting with Finance Minister T Harish Rao and Handlooms Commissioner Shailaja Ramaiyer and officials from the department.Responding positively to the recommendations made by the handloom workers and to discuss the decisions taken during the last meeting, the Minister conducted another meeting on Tuesday.
He reviewed the progress and implementation of all the schemes, including Telangana Handloom Weavers Thrift Fund Saving and Security Scheme (TFSSS), 20 per cent subsidy on hank yarn, dyes and chemicals, Pavala Vaddi scheme, Marketing Support Schemes, Chenetha Mitra Scheme and cash credit support Scheme.
He said the department would take all measures to release the funds sanctioned to workers at the earliest. Following the implementation of different schemes, weavers were benefitting a lot as their incomes had increased considerably, besides facilitating in handful of work for the workers all through the year he stated adding that “As per the instructions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the monthly income of handloom workers has now increased to over Rs 15,000,” he said.
