Mahabubabad: Maoist party senior leader Kathi Mohan Rao alias Pakahanna alias Dhamadada died of heart attack on June 10 in Dandakaranyam, CPI Maoist Telangana State Committee official spokesperson Jagan said in a statement on Sunday.  The last rites of Mohan Rao were conducted the next day in the presence of people and PLGA cadres.

An M.Sc degree holder from Kakatiya University (KU), Mohan Rao, who is said to be second generation leader of Maoist party, was born into a middle class family at Garla village of Bayyaram mandal in Mahabubabad district. Under the influence of the Naxalbari movement and Srikakulam Pheasant uprising, he started working for the Radical Students Union (RSU), a students wing of the then People’s War Group (PWG) while he was studying in MCC in Kakatiya University in 1982, according to the Maoist’s statement.

He was arrested in Khammam in 1985 and spent six years in jail. He also worked for the commune of political prisoners.  He joined the Mahadevpur dalam in 1991 after the government gave relaxation, and got arrested a second time.  But he again joined the party and worked in several positions including the post of Khammam-Warangal divisional committee secretary.  Mohan Rao was transferred to Dandakaranya as the party needed his services, he said.

“Though he was suffering from asthma, BP and diabetes, he worked as a teacher in a school run by Janathana Sarkar of the Maoists,” Jagan said in the statement. Mohan Rao had an elder brother, one younger brother and younger sister.
