Telangana teachers demand PRC, pending DAs before August 31
Teachers from government and local body schools have given the Telangana government until August 31 to resolve pending issues, including PRC and DA benefits. They warned of statewide protests, including a siege of the Secretariat and Assembly, if their demands remain unmet
Hyderabad: Government and local body school teachers have set August 31 as the deadline for the Telangana Congress government to resolve all pending issues, including PRC benefits, concerning them.
Hundreds of teachers, who participated in the Maha Dharna organised by the Telangana Prantha Upadhyaya Sangam (TPUS) at Indira Park here on Saturday, threatened to intensify the protest with statewide dharnas and announced plans to lay siege to the Secretariat and the Legislative Assembly if their demands were not met by the deadline.
Addressing the gathering, TPUS president Vodnala Rajashekhar and general secretary Telkalapalli Pentayya said they were not seeking any new benefits but merely demanding the implementation of the promises made by the Congress party in its election manifesto. The protesting teachers demanded that the government immediately release the pending Dearness Allowances (DAs) and implement the promised Pay Revision Commission (PRC).
The teachers also criticised the government’s claims of improving education, saying that providing breakfast in 1,200 schools and constructing three Telangana Public Schools did not reflect the actual condition of the education system across the State. They alleged that schools were being shut down in the name of rationalisation, which they said was detrimental to public education.
MP Dr K Laxman, MLA Aleti Maheshwar Reddy, MLC Dr AVN Reddy, and MLCs Anji Reddy and Malka Komuraiah expressed their support for the teachers.
