TPUS urges Telangana government to reconsider panel inspections in high schools

The Telangana Prantha Upadhyaya Sangam has urged the State government to reconsider panel inspections in high schools, saying School Assistants should not supervise fellow teachers. It also sought filling supervisory vacancies and suggested a panel comprising senior education officials.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Prantha Upadhyaya Sangam (TPUS) on Friday urged the State government to reconsider the current system of panel inspections at the high school level, stating that assigning School Assistants to supervise other teachers of the same cadre is not appropriate. It also urged the government to fill up supervisory posts.

In a statement, TPUS president Vadnala Rajasekhar and general secretary Telkalapalli Pentaiah said School Assistants should not be asked to supervise lessons taught by fellow School Assistants.

Pointing out that MEOs and DyEOs have already been entrusted with supervisory responsibilities, they questioned the need to assign supervisory duties to School Assistants when regular officials could be appointed to such vacant posts.

The panel inspection teams, according to the TPUS, should comprise gazetted headmasters, MEOs, officials from the DEO, members of the Examination Branch and various programme coordinators.

Complex headmasters and guest headmasters working under DEOs and MEOs are already visiting schools, supervising academic activities and recording their observations through the Telangana School Education app, it said.

While School Assistants generally accept academic guidance from gazetted headmasters, assigning teachers from the same cadre to provide teaching instructions to one another could affect their professional dignity and self-respect, it added.
