Hyderabad:  Grandmaster Raja Rithvik from Telangana will take part in the prestigious FIDE World Cup 2025 to be held in Goa from November 1 to 27. The World Chess Federation (FIDE) will conduct the Chess World Cup 2025.

In the first round, GM Raja Rithvik (rating 2541) will face Nogerbek Kazybek (rating 2543) of Kazakhstan. Both players will play two classical games on November 1 and 2. In case of a tie after two rounds, the result will be decided through rapid and blitz tie-breakers on November 3.

Expressing his excitement, GM Raja Rithvik said participating in the World Cup would be a true test of skill and resilience against the best players from across the globe.

A total of 208 of the world’s top chess players from more than 80 countries, including the USA, UK, India, China, Germany, Norway, Australia, France, Kazakhstan, Sweden and Hungary, will compete in the World Cup, considered the most important chess event of the year. The tournament will be held in an eight-round knockout format. Raja Rithvik is one of the 24 Indian players participating in the event.

It may be recalled that Raja Rithvik qualified to represent India in the FIDE World Cup following his impressive performance at the Asian Chess Championship 2025 held in May in the UAE.

Currently pursuing engineering at KL University, Hyderabad, GM Raja Rithvik has been undergoing advanced training at RACE Chess Academy under prominent coach N Rama Raju. He is also receiving online coaching from GM Alexander Goloshchapov of Ukraine. Over the years, Raja Rithvik has won several medals in national, international, Commonwealth and Asian championships held across various countries.

The Telangana State Chess Association congratulated GM Raja Rithvik on his selection to the prestigious FIDE World Cup 2025 and wished him grand success in front of home-country chess fans.
