Tension in Edulapuram, other places in Khammam as Congress workers clash with opposition
Several clashes and heated arguments were reported during municipal polling in Khammam, Warangal and nearby areas on Wednesday. Workers of various political parties accused each other and the police of bias, while residents also raised questions over government promises

Khammam/Warangal: Tension prevailed in Edulapuram Municipality in Khammam for some time as workers of the CPI, CPI (M) and Congress clashed with each other while polling was underway on Wednesday.
CPI and CPM workers clashed and entered into heated arguments in Wards 31 and 32 of the municipality at polling booths. CPI workers got into an argument over a CPM agent campaigning at a polling booth.
At Jalagam Nagar polling station in Ward 26, BRS and Congress workers entered into heated arguments and jostled with each other when a Congress agent was campaigning at the polling booth. Police reached the spot and dispersed the crowd. BRS workers alleged that the police acted in favour of the ruling party.
At the Regina School polling booth in Paloncha under Kothagudem Municipal Corporation, a Congress leader allegedly manhandled a BRS worker. It was alleged that Lakshmidevipally deputy sarpanch Bablu of the ruling party caught hold of the collar of a BRS activist and snatched away his mobile phone while he was taking photos when Congress workers were distributing money to voters.
BRS leaders alleged that Congress leaders were misusing power with police support and demanded that police take immediate action against the Congress leader, failing which a complaint would be filed with the Human Rights Commission.
CPI state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao expressed anger at the police for preventing a party worker from entering a polling booth in the 19th division for wearing a red shirt. CPI workers accused the police of working in favour of Congress.
In Warangal’s Wardhannapet Municipality, residents of DC Thanda blocked Congress leaders who went to observe the voting pattern in the local polling station area. The residents questioned the Congress leaders over the government’s failure to implement the six guarantees.
They asked Congress leaders what they had done after coming to power except deceiving people with 420 promises. The residents also told Congress leaders that the next government would be formed by the BRS.
In Mahabubabad Municipality, BRS and Congress workers argued with each other as a Congress candidate was found campaigning at a polling station in the 14th ward. BRS candidate Krishna alleged that Congress candidate Nageswara Rao was campaigning at the polling station but police did not take any action.
BJP leaders in Narsampet Municipality alleged that police made abusive remarks against BJP candidate Vasantha Kumari, who was contesting in the 10th ward. They also complained that police used lathis with nails on BJP workers in the 9th and 24th wards of the municipality to disperse them.
