Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao criticised both the Congress government in Telangana and the BJP at the Centre, accusing them of deceiving the people and failing to deliver on their promises. He called on voters to teach a lesson to both parties in the municipal polls and back BRS candidates to initiate efforts to bring back K Chandrashekhar Rao as Chief Minister.
Addressing a roadshow as part of the municipal election campaign in Vemulawada on Friday, Rama Rao said the Congress came to power in the State with unrealistic promises, but failed to implement even a single assurance. He stated that the government’s administrative failures and inability to honour commitments had pushed people into distress. He wanted people to defeat the Congress in the ensuing municipal polls to ensure implementation of six guarantees and 420 promises.
“If you want the six guarantees and promises to be implemented, the Congress must be defeated,” he told the gathering, asserting that only electoral pressure would force the ruling party to act.
The BRS working president asked whether any of the Congress government’s key promises like enhanced pensions, Rythu Bharosa, Aasara pension, Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak and the promise of one tola of gold had been implemented. He warned that if the Congress was not challenged in the municipal elections, it would interpret the results as public approval of its performance and continue to ignore its commitments.
Targeting Vemulawada MLA Adi Srinivas, Rama Rao recalled that the Congress leader had given a written bond during the Assembly elections, pledging to implement all six guarantees within 100 days. Holding a copy of the bond paper at the roadshow, he accused Srinivas of misleading voters with emotional appeals and then vanishing from public view after getting elected. He questioned what development work had been taken up in the constituency, stating that the MLA was focused only on securing a ministerial post by aligning closely with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
Turning to the BJP, the former Minister accused the party of doing nothing for Telangana despite holding power at the Centre. He took aim at Union Minister Bandi Sanjay, who represented the constituency twice but made no significant contributions to the region. He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of abandoning promises made during earlier elections and said the BJP routinely sought votes by invoking caste, religion and religious symbolism rather than development.
Urging voters not to fall for the BJP’s divisive politics, he asked the electorate to remember the BRS and its president K Chandrashekhar Rao, who stood by the poor, cared for farmers and achieved Telangana statehood. He said a strong verdict for the BRS in the municipal polls would send a clear message to the Congress government and mark the start of the journey to restore Chandrashekhar Rao to power.
Vemulawada constituency BRS in-charge Chalmeda Lakshminarasimha Rao and municipal candidates were also present.
