Hyderabad: Tension escalated in Bahadurguda village in Shamshabad mandal as HYDRAA and the Revenue Department took over 650 acres of land amid stiff opposition from farmers and unprecedented police bandobust.
The State government is taking over the land under Survey Nos. 28 and 68 of Bahadurguda village. The Cyberabad police have deployed a heavy police force to facilitate HYDRAA and Revenue Department officials in carrying out the exercise.
The entire village is under heavy police security, and roads leading to the village have also been blocked for regular traffic since the early hours of Saturday.
Objecting to the government’s move, the farmers have been staging a protest at Bahadurguda. “We want justice. We will not part with our land and demand that the government issue pattas,” the farmers and their family members are demanding at the protest site in the village.
However, the police are taking the farmers, including women, into custody. Heated arguments are taking place between the police and the farmers. One person is learnt to have lost consciousness in the melee.
Meanwhile, the BRS extended its support to the farmers and objected to the government’s plans to take over the land. BRS senior leader P Karthik Reddy was prevented from heading to the village to speak to the farmers.
He was picked up by the police near his house while heading to the village. The BRS leaders raised “Revanth Reddy down down” slogans. Tension prevailed in the area after the police and BRS leaders entered into arguments over the State government’s action.
