Hyderabad: The Telangana Government Doctors’ Association (TGGDA) on Sunday criticised the State Government for not focusing enough on improving primary and secondary health care facilities in Telangana. The senior office-bearers of TGGDA condemned the neglect of Telangana Vaidya Vidhan Parishad (TVVP) and Directorate of Health (DH), which are part of primary and second-level health care facilities in Telangana.
“In TVVP, there is a need to reorganise hospitals under both TVVP and DH. Civil Assistant Surgeon (specialists) appointments have not taken place and staff promotions have been stalled. This has led to stagnation for dedicated employees. Promotions for Programme Officers have not happened since Telangana was formed,” they said.
At the Directorate of Health (DH), Civil Surgeon promotions are being delayed, which is simply adding to the frustration of doctors. The dental doctors under DH are retiring without any path for promotion, a problem that needs to be addressed immediately. Non-teaching doctors should be given time-bound promotions, at least in the form of a Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), the TGGDA said.
Such outstanding issues are affecting the morale of doctors and are having a serious impact on the quality of healthcare services provided to the public. Frontline doctors need recognition, opportunities for growth, and administrative support, the TGGDA added.
