TGSWREIS staff protest non-core duties, seek focus on sports training
Physical directors and physical education teachers of TGSWREIS colleges in Hyderabad have urged the State government not to burden them with non-core duties such as caretaker or warden roles. In a representation to Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman, they said additional responsibilities beyond their job chart are causing burnout, health risks and reducing the quality of sports training.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society’s (TGSWREIS) degree and junior colleges physical directors (PDs) and physical education teachers (PETs) on Sunday demanded the State government not to assign additional non-core duties such as caretaker, warden, lunch supervision or extended administrative responsibilities to them.
In a representation to Social Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman, the PDs and PETs said they are already performing early-morning drills, sports coaching, evening practice, and continuous monitoring of large student groups.
Assigning extra duties beyond the approved job chart has increased their workload, causing burnout and reducing quality of physical training, they said, adding that it is negatively affecting students’ fitness and sport outcomes.
“Additional work is increasing stress among staff, posing health risks to staff,” they said.
The PDs and PETs demanded that they be assigned only core sports and physical training duties. Further, they also wanted the TGSWREIS job chart to be duly followed while allocating duties for PETs.
These measures will protect staff well-being and significantly improve student performance in sports and physical development, they added.
