Hyderabad: Monsoon is around the corner, and gazing skywards might take your breath away – clouds forming in different shapes and sizes. And captivated by the clouds is Younus Farhaan who captured some interesting pictures of clouds and its various formations this season, often, with an impression of sending out a message.
In his numerous collections – a cloud depicts what he calls the ‘Heart of Telangana State’ while another looks as if an angel is descending from heaven. There are others – warrior riding a horse, as he bravely extends his chest to signify his courage and strength and a cloud appearing to be praying to the Almighty and two clouds appearing as if they are exchanging pleasantries.
Every cloud that forms in the sky gives out an aura and elucidates certain issues by its imagery and character, says Farhaan.
There even is a cloud that appears to be giving out a message on World No Tobacco Day 2021. “See this particular shape- shifting cloud, that start off as a silhouette of simple human smoking and the smog mutating into a lion and finally morphing into a skeleton, led me to interpret that the sky is explicitly illustrating that ‘Smoking Kills,” says the 27-years-old graduate from Malakpet.
Farhaan has been passionately pursuing cloud photography since 2008.
“Different moods and emotions they convey pique my curiosity. They come in different shapes and sizes. Beyond the rains, the pleasant weather conditions, clouds travel places while taking various forms. Capturing them, sometimes indeed can be a very tiring effort,” he says.
Observing them for long hours to make sure of what the cloud is transforming into calls for lot of patience. If one looks in, clouds can be seen giving out humanitarian messages to the people, says the youngster.
“It has been a childhood fantasy for everyone to observe clouds, gazing skywards in awe and playfully following them. But it was not all fun for photographers who capture them. We need to have an understanding of the clouds. We need to have perfect timing. With perfect weather conditions, also important is timing and patience to capture the varied nuances of clouds,” says Farhaan.
The youngster has frozen clouds in frames in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and other locations in Andhra Pradesh. “Ideal locations to capture clouds are hills, river side and during sunset and sunrise. Monsoon is the best season to capture the moments. We have a number of clouds like stratus, cirrus clouds which are short, detached, hair-like clouds found at high altitudes, cumulonimbus that can be seen often during thunderstorms. Forecasts provide a lot of information to take cloud photos,” says Farhaan.
