Thorough investigation being conducted into Maganoor ZPHS food poisoning cases: School Education Director

Hyderabad: School Education Director EV Narasimha Reddy on Wednesday said that a thorough investigation was being conducted into the food poisoning cases at ZPHS Maganoor in Narayanpet district and an enquiry report would be submitted at the earliest to the State government.
On Wednesday, the School Education, Director, along with District Collector, Sikta Patnaik, SP, Yogesh Goutham, School Education, Joint Director, P Madan Mohan visited the school that witnessed three food poisoning incidents. The team inspected the school facilities including storeroom, rice stock, kitchen and collected water samples for testing.
Mid-day meals cooked in quality utensils with fresh vegetables would be served to students henceforth, he said, adding that a mandal special officer, MPDO and tehsildar would inspect the food.
Assuring students that daily inspections would be conducted in the school henceforth, he said that a food committee comprising teachers and students has been constituted for serving mid-day meals in the school. Necessary steps would be initiated to set up such committees in the school across the State, he said.
Referring to the food poisoning incident on Tuesday, Reddy said Tehsildar, MPDO and teachers, along with 400 students and some journalists, had mid-day meals in the school. However, it was learned that 20 students fell ill, he said, adding that all students were safe and healthy.
To boost the confidence of students who faced food poisoning incidents thrice, the director, along with collector and SP, had food with students.
As for Tuesday’s incident, the Collector said two or three students were found to be suffering from a slight fever, and other students were worried seeing their peers nervous.
As for food poisoning case reported in the school a week ago, Sikta Patnaik said it was an issue with substandard eggs that were bought from outside. Eggs, along with food samples collected from stalls outside the schools, were sent to the lab for testing, she said, adding that investigation was underway as to why some students out of 400 were facing the issue.
