Given the infighting in party's State unit, high command's job turns out to be tricky affair
Hyderabad: Even as Congress leaders in the State are anxiously waiting for the announcement of a new president for Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee to replace N Uttam Kumar Reddy, the party high command in New Delhi, however, appears to be in no hurry to make any moves in this direction, at least in the near future.
Uttam Kumar Reddy resigned from the top post following the Congress’ poor performance in the recent by-elections in the State.
Some party leaders have already made their ‘preferences’ clear to the party high command on the candidate for the TPCC post while others, including some who joined the party recently, camping in New Delhi to push for their candidature. Party sources, however, claimed that leaders camping in New Delhi were there on personal work and not on party affairs. Given the infighting among party leaders in the State, the high command’s job is turning out to be a tricky affair.
Former MP V Hanumantha Rao has been insisting that a person from the BC community should be made the new TPCC chief while leaders from another community, dominant in Congress, are also trying to push hard for a person from that community.
Amidst these developments, a difference of opinions has cropped up among leaders on different issues. Rao has written a letter to the party high command against CLP leader Bhatti Vikramarka alleging that he had failed to stop leaders from switching loyalties to other parties. This, apparently, has not gone down well with other leaders in the party.
Former MP Mallu Ravi said Hanumanth Rao writing against Vikramarka was highly condemnable. In the given political circumstances, Bhatti was working to the best of his capabilities as CLP leader, he said in a statement. “Being a senior Congress leader, Hanumantha Rao should have advised the CLP leader to take up certain issues, which he felt are important,” Ravi said.
Considering all these aspects, it is learnt that the party high command in New Delhi, is not keen on taking any decisions in the near future.
It is not merely Telangana that has not caught the attention of the Congress top brass as quite a few PCC posts are vacant across the country, a senior party leader said, adding that the party high command’s focus currently appears to be on setting things right in Punjab and UP.
