Traffic diversions likely on Uppal main road for elevated corridor works

Traffic restrictions are likely to be imposed on Uppal main road as authorities prepare for construction of the long-delayed Uppal–Narapally elevated corridor. Traffic police are finalising diversion plans, with the project expected to ease congestion and be completed by Dasara 2026.

Hyderabad: The traffic authorities are gearing up to impose traffic restrictions on Uppal main road due to the ongoing works related to the much-delayed construction of the Uppal-Narapally elevated corridor.

As a part of implementing traffic restrictions, the Traffic police in Uppal are in the process of preparing a blueprint for traffic diversion and alternative routes in view of the works related to the construction of the six-lane elevated corridor between Uppal and Narapally.

Uppal Traffic Inspector Ashok on Monday said that the traffic diversion may likely start in a week in the Uppal area. The plan for the diversion of traffic was in the final stage, he added.

A coordination meeting was held recently among key departments, including GHMC, NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) and traffic police, and work related to the project was to start. As a result, traffic diversion became inevitable for Uppal elevated corridor works in a few days.

An elevated corridor project near Ramanthapur was part of the GHMC’s Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) aimed to reduce traffic congestion at Uppal junction, featuring a 440-metre flyover with a steep curve from Ramanthapur towards Uppal Stadium Road.

The Uppal corridor work started in 2017 and was supposed to be completed within three years, but the delay continued due to multiple reasons. The elevated corridor is now expected to be ready for public use by 2026 Dasara.
