Hyderabad: Traffic snarls across the old city during the four-hour relaxation period in the mornings are proving to be a major hurdle in the path of those trying to reach home before the deadline of 10 am. Traffic jams have become a major issue for the public especially on the Mir Alam Mandi – Mirchowk Road, Chandrayangutta Road and Bahadurpura road.
“The situation is horrible at Alijah Kotla Kaman during the mornings as there are no traffic cops to regulate the traffic at the junction. If one gets caught in the mess, it takes around 10 to 15 minutes to find a way out,” says Ehtesham Khan, a resident of Moghalpura. The situation is similar on the Mir Alam Mandi road, he adds.
In the south of the old city, there is a regular traffic jam on the Chandrayangutta road, where different works are progressing. “There is only one traffic home guard posted to streamline the traffic. And if there is a traffic jam, it stretches on for about two kilometres,” complains Syed Aamir, a resident of Al Jubail Colony.
The situation is no better on the Keshavgiri Junction road, a little away from the Chandrayangutta police station. “Sometime policemen from the patrol car can be seen regulating the traffic. Most of the times, local people themselves step on to the road to clear the traffic jam,” points out a shopkeeper, adding that more traffic policemen should be deployed from 6 am onwards at important thoroughfares to regulate traffic.
