Kothagudem: Tribal associations here have demanded Rs 1 crore compensation to tribal and dalit mining officers died in the recent accident at SCCL’s Adriyala Longwall Project at Godavarikhani in Peddapalli district. All India Tribal Employees union national vice president, Golla Ramesh, Singareni Tribal Employees union president Banoth Karna, its senior vice president Heerya in a statement here on Thursday opposed the company’s decision to give a compensation of Rs 15 to the officers.
Condoling the death of Area Safety Officer S Jayaraj, a dalit and Deputy Manager Tejawath Chaitanya Teja, a tribal, the union leaders expressed dismay at the fact that the company agreed to pay Rs 30 lakh to an apprentice Srikanth who died in the accident but was paying Rs 15 lakh to deceased officers’ kin. They said that if someone in their families holds a degree, they should be given an officer post and posted wherever they want. They strongly condemned the company’s policy of treating dead officers on duty and officers who died outside alike and offering their kin a clerk post.
Officer posts should be given on merit basis to those who have died in the accident. Steps for allocation of an officer quarter to the family of the deceased officers and continuing it until the age of retirement of the deceased have to be taken, Ramesh said. Likewise the tuition fee of children of the deceased officers has to be paid by the company until they complete their degree. If the company management failed to concede to the demands the tribal associations would take up agitations, the leaders warned.
