Khammam: Protests have taken place across erstwhile Khammam district on Wednesday against the union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Bishweswar Tudu. The protestors have accused the union minister of misleading the Lok Sabha in a reply to a question on March 21 pertaining to Telangana’s proposal for increasing the quantum of the reservation to ST groups.
Tribal representatives and TRS leaders staged a protest at Manchukonda in Raghunadhapalem mandal in Khammam constituency. They burnt an effigy of the minister and shouted slogans against the BJP government at the Centre.
Speaking on the occasion, SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar and others said that union Minister Bishweshwar was ashamed to tell blatant lies that he had not received any proposals from the State government on the increase in tribal reservations.
The minister who holds a responsible position was insulting the Indian parliamentary system and the Constitution. The policies of the Centre and its minister’s words were meant to hurt the sentiments of the tribals of Telangana and insult the State government, they said.
Vijay Kumar felt that it was unfortunate that the union minister did not know that the Tribal Reservation Bill was passed in Telangana Assembly and sent to the Centre. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao himself had given a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018 and 2019, which detailed the State’s constitutional right.
The TRS leaders have criticised the union government for unfairly treating the tribals and for plotting to slander the TRS Telangana government.
