Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) retained Adilabad Local Authorities Constituency with its candidate Dande Vittal registering a thumping victory. The results of the counting of votes polled for the constituency was declared here on Tuesday.

Dande Vittal won against Independent candidate Pendur Pushparani by a majority of 664 votes. He registered 738 votes, while Pushparani recorded barely 74 votes and invalid votes accounted for 48 as against the total 860 votes polled during the elections to the constituency on December 10. The constituency had 937 votes in erstwhile Adilabad district.

To carry out counting of the votes, four tables were arranged at TTDC in Adilabad. Bindles of 25 ballets each were formed. A supervisor was deputed to supervise the counting at each table. Election Observer Navin Mittal and Election Returning Officer and Collector Sikta Patnaik oversaw the counting process. The results were announced by 10 am, ending the four-day long suspense.

The TRS party retained the seat for the second time in a row. Earlier, its nominee Puranam Satheesh Kumar was elected unanimously in polls to Adilabad LAC in 2016. It fielded Dande Vittal, an industrialist of Hyderabad and native of Kaghaznagar town. Pendur Pushparani, an Independent supported by tribal rights organisation Tudumdebba was in the fray, necessitating polls.

Strategies devised by public representatives and leaders of the TRS helped Dande Vittal to easily defeat his opponent. In particular, camps operated by the party ensured that the elected representatives cast their votes in favour of the nominee of the outfit.

Forest Minister Allola Indrakaran Reddy termed the victory as historical and results proved that the TRS party was an invincible force. He said that the party would continue to win in any elections. He thanked cadres, leaders and activists of the party for playing a vital role in the triumph of the candidate. He attributed the victory to coordinated efforts.

In the meantime, activists and leaders of TRS erupted into celebrations following the victory of Dande Vittal in headquarters of Adilabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts and several parts of the erstwhile Adilabad district. They bursted crackers and distributed sweets among themselves. They danced to drum beats to mark the winning streak of the party.
