Hyderabad: Stepping up its attack on the Centre for its paddy procurement policy, the ruling TRS launched State-wide protests in all Assembly constituency headquarters on Friday. The TRS Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other elected representatives are participating in a three-hour-long dharna in their respective constituencies demanding the Centre to make a clear announcement to purchase the entire paddy yield from Telangana.
TRS President and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao recently called for the protests, to expose the double-standards of the BJP. While the BJP-led Union government has been refusing to purchase entire paddy produced in Telangana and asking the State government to encourage cultivation of alternative crops, the BJP State leaders have been misleading farmers to cultivate paddy to gain political mileage and assuring that they would force the State government to purchase their produce.
TRS working president and Minister KT Rama Rao led the protests organised in Siricilla, while Ministers including T Harish Rao, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, A Indrakaran Reddy, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, S Niranjan Reddy and others held protests in their respective constituency headquarters as well as the district headquarters concerned. In Hyderabad, Dharna Chowk near Indira Park has become the protest venue where TRS leaders including Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali, Talasani Srinivas Yadav and others staged a dharna.
The TRS leaders questioned the Central government as to why it was purchasing the entire paddy crop from Punjab, but was refusing to extend similar support to Telangana State. They demanded that the Centre must make it’s stance clear on paddy purchases and vowed to step up their protests until there is an assurance in this regard.
Nearly three lakh people including TRS cadre and farmers took part in the dharnas, with the State leadership constantly monitoring the arrangements to make the protests a success. The TRS leaders have already obtained necessary permissions for dharnas from respective district collectors in the wake of MLC election code.
