Hyderabad: The Kukatpally police on Friday arrested the truck driver involved in a road accident that occurred on Wednesday night resulting in the death of a pedestrian.

While Shaik Pasha (50), the truck driver from Gajularamaram, was arrested and booked under culpable homicide not amounting to murder, owner of the vehicle Shaik Raheem from Roda Mistry Nagar is absconding. Officials said Pasha was driving rashly under the influence of alcohol and without a valid driving licence as well.

According to the police, Pasha who drove the truck negligently mowed down S Ramanjaneyulu (53) a pedestrian and who was working as a construction supervisor and is a resident of Kukatpally. Ramanjaneylu suffered grievous bleeding injuries and died on the spot.

Though Pasha has a disability in the leg and does not possess a valid driving licence, was allowed to drive the truck. Further, Pasha drove in an inebriated condition resulting in the crash and death of the pedestrian. He was produced before the court for remand in judicial custody. Efforts are on to arrest Raheem.

“Drunk driving and driving by unauthorised persons have been the major causes of road crashes and fatalities on roads in Cyberabad. Hence, we have been taking stringent legal action against such violators,” said SM Vijay Kumar, DCP (Traffic) Cyberabad.

The police said any person holding a valid driving licence but suffer from any physical disability which would affect their driving, should stay away from driving.
