Siddipet: Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Monday said the State government will allocate Rs 20,000 crore to Rs 30,000 crore in the 2022-23 budget for the Telangana Dalit Bandhu programme.

Stating that the government would spend Rs one lakh crore on Dalit bandhu in the next two-and-half years for the upliftment of Dalits in the State, the Minister said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has asked the Finance department to make provisions for Rs 20,000 crore to Rs 30,000 crore budgetary allocation in the coming fiscal.

Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for Ambedkar Bhavan in Cheriyal town in Siddipet district, Harish Rao said Telangana will set an example for the rest of the nation on Dalit empowerment by making the required budgetary allocations for the backwards Dalits’ welfare. “The government will extend the benefits under the scheme to Dalits irrespective of their political affiliations. The government will not show any bias in implementing the welfare schemes,” he asserted.

Stating that Dalits will achieve socio-economic equality since the scheme will encourage Dalit youth to set up self-employment projects to improve their livelihood, he called upon the Dalits to put the money given to them to best use to ensure that they are economically self-reliant.

Initially, the State government had granted Rs 50 lakhs for the Dr Ambedkar Bhavan but since the local engineers said they would need an additional Rs 75 lakhs, the Minister assured that the funds would be released within two days.

Harish Rao also laid the foundation stone for expansion of the TSRTC bus station which will be developed at a cost of Rs 86 lakhs.

The Minister also inaugurated a new Degree College building built at a cost Rs 2.25 crore, besides opening additional classrooms constructed at a cost of Rs one crore at the ZPHS School.

The Minister also held a review meeting of Jangaon Assembly constituency with Zilla Parishad Chairperson V Roja, MLA Jangaon Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy, DCCB Chairman Chitti Devendar Reddy and others.
