Kumram Bheem-Asifabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) launched bus services from Asifabad to Aheri in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra via Sirpur (T) and Koutala mandals on a trial basis here on Monday. The service fulfils a long-standing dream of the people of the district.

Depot manager B Venkata Krishna Murthy told Telangana Today that the corporation introduced the services on a trial basis, following a request made by Sirpur (T) MLA Koneru Konappa. He added that the services would formally commence once the bridge being built across Pranahita river is inaugurated.

The manager further stated that two buses will ply to Allapalli every day. He requested passengers to utilise the services for reaching the neighbouring State. He added that the travel distance between Aheri has been reduced drastically on this route when compared to that which passes through Rajura and Chandrapur of Maharashtra.

The State government took up the construction of a high-level bridge across Pranahita, a tributary of Godavari, at Gudem village in Chintalamanepalli mandal and at Aheri of Maharashtra at an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore in 2017. The works were completed and motorists are being allowed to use it for the past few weeks.

With the completion of the bridge, the distance between Asifabad and Aheri, a major town of Gadchiroli district has been cut down by at least 80 km. People from Chintalamanepalli, Koutala, Bejjur, Siripur (T), Kaghaznagar, Dahegaon and Asifabad mandals share commercial and cultural links with several parts of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur districts.
