Adilabad: The Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA)-Utnoor Project Officer Ankith has assured all help to Madavi Kannibai, a tribal mountaineer from remote Bheemangondi village in Kerameri mandal Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, on Friday. He was responding to a report published in these columns highlighting the pathetic condition of Kannibai who was forced to take to agriculture labour to help her family.
“Ankit requested me to meet him in his office and interacted with me for about an hour. He wanted to know why I became a daily wage earner. He assured all support on behalf of the tribal welfare department. He advised me to set up a Vijaya dairy parlor in Utnoor mandal centre at a cost of Rs 5 lakh to provide livelihood for me,” Kannibai told Telangana Today.
The ITDA PO handed a cheque of Rs 25,000 to the 29-year-old as immediate relief. He said that Kannibai brought recognition to Telangana and the district by bagging gold medals in an international water rappelling competition at Katika waterfalls in Visakhapatnam in 2019.
In the meantime, Tribal Welfare Department Commissioner Dr Christina Z Chongthu made a video call to Kannibai upon learning about the pitiable condition of the mountaineer through the report. “She suggested to me not to be depressed about the future and lack of encouragement by the government. She also promised to extend all support to me,” Kannibai said.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Madavi Kannibai, was forced to take up agriculture labour at Janagama village in Ramagundam mandal of Peddapalli district and Kalwada village in Dahegaon mandal for the past fortnight. Being the breadwinner of the family, she was engaged in sprinkling paddy sprouts and harvesting pigeon pea or red gram crops, as she was unable to find livelihood.
