As many as 294 Maoists surrendered to the Kothagudem police so far this year because of the welfare measures being taken up for the surrendered Maoists and adivasi people under the ‘Operation Cheyutha’ programme.

Three divisional committee members (DVCM), 17 area committee members (ACM/PPCMs), 34 party members, 107 militia members, 35 Revolutionary People’s Committee (RPC) members, 47 Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (DAKMS/KAMS) members, 30 Chaitanya Natya Mandali (CNM) members and 21 Grama Rakshaka Dalam (GRD) members were among those who surrendered before police, he said.

The 12 surrendered Maoists were given instant relief of Rs 25,000 each. An amount of Rs 26 lakh would be deposited in their bank accounts in the form of cheques as per their ranks. On the day, cash cheques worth Rs 12 lakh were handed over to seven Maoists who surrendered recently, the SP said.

With increasing pressure from the Chhattisgarh Police, Maoists were moving towards villages on the borders of Telangana. The district police, in coordination with the CRPF, were maintaining high alert to prevent them from entering the State, Rohith Raju noted, appealing to underground Maoist cadres to surrender and join mainstream life to live peacefully with their family members.

The district police would ensure to provide them with livelihood support and rehabilitation, he added.

Bhadrachalam ASP Vikrant Kumar Singh, Additional SP (Operations) G Narender, CRPF official MK Singh, and others were present.
