Adilabad: Two persons were booked on the charges of growing prohibited ganja or cannabis in a farm at Arli village in Bheempur mandal on Sunday. About 250 plants were recovered from the farm and were destroyed. The value of these plants was estimated to be Rs 60,000.
Special Branch Assistant Sub-Inspector R Ganapathi said that the accused were Athram Ramu and Tekam Pothu, both belonging to Arli village. Ramu and Pothu were found cultivating the banned crop in their backyard when the sleuths of a special branch raided it following a tip. They, however, were absconding and a search was launched for nabbing the two.
In-charge Superintendent of Police M Rajesh Chandra said that a special focus was laid on the cultivation of ganja and to clamp down the menace. Prohibition and Excise department’s sub-inspector Sanjeev, staffers of the special branch M Koteshwar Rao, K Dasharath and J Suresh took part in the operation.
