Hyderabad: The two-day annual fish prasadam distribution by the Bathini Goud family at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally, which began on Mrigasira Karthi Sunday, concluded on Monday morning.
The event witnessed a tragic incident on the first day, when a septuagenarian collapsed while waiting in the queue and died before he could be shifted to medical care.
The Bathini Goud family, which has been distributing the fish prasadam free of cost for several decades, had prepared their secret formulation in adequate quantities this year. People from across Telangana and other parts of the country started arriving at the venue as early as Saturday.
Telangana Fisheries Department Deputy Director T Srinivas told Telangana Today, “We kept 1.5 lakh murrels ready for the fish prasadam, and 60,000 murrels were sold through the counters. Last year too, the department sold 60,000 murrels, and one lakh murrels were expected this year.”
For asthma patients who have already received the initial dose, the Bathini family will continue to administer the fish prasadam for four more days at their ancestral home in Doodhbowli to complete the treatment course.
