The annual fish prasadam distribution by the Bathini family continued at Hyderabad’s Exhibition Grounds, attracting thousands from across India. Now in its 180th year, the event saw participants from multiple states queueing up to receive the traditional offering on Mrigasira Karthi.

The Fisheries department has made arrangements to supply necessary fish to the Bathini family for distributing the medicine to asthma patients.

Bathini Goud family members said a sage shared the ingredients of the fish medicine with their elders about 190 years ago and since then they have been providing it free of charge to lakhs of patients with respiratory issues.

Fish prasadam is a small live murrel fish stuffed with herbal paste and it is believed to possess medicinal properties capable of alleviating respiratory ailments.

As the crowd increased there was reportedly a melee in the queue, following which he fell unconscious.

Accordingly, people coming in cars from Nampally side have to park vehicles at Gruha Kalpa, Gagan Vihar and Chandra Vihar and proceed on foot towards Exhibition Ground Gate No. 2.

This ancient tradition, started by the Goud family, has been maintained for the past 178 years.

Every year, the Bathini family distributes fish prasadam to people suffering from asthma and other respiratory illnesses.

Harinath Goud passed away on Wednesday night in Kavadiguda. He is survived by his wife, Sunitra Devi, along with two daughters and two sons.

The fish prasadam distribution commenced at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds on Friday morning. It will continue till Saturday.
