Two youths drown in Himayatsagar reservoir, one body recovered

Hyderabad: Two youngsters who had gone for a swim drowned in the Himayatsagar reservoir on Sunday.
The victims, Salman (21), a resident of Peeram Cheruvu, Sameer (22) and Shahbaz (21), both residents of Tolichowki, and autorickshaw drivers by profession, had visited the Himayatsagar reservoir around 11.30 am on Sunday.
“All three of them got into the lake for a swim. A little later, Salman began drowning in the lake and on noticing it, Sameer and Shahbaz rushed to his rescue. However, in an attempt to save Salman, Shahbaz also drowned while Sameer swam back to safety,” said Rajendranagar Sub-Inspector K Raghavendra.
Upon receiving information about the drowning incident, the police sought assistance from the local DRF teams and fire department personnel to retrieve the bodies. The body of Salman was retrieved while efforts were continuing to trace Shahbaz. A case has been registered.
