Sangareddy: Unable to sell his land after the government’s decision to set up a dump yard close to his village, a farmer, Nadiminti Krishna (53) died of heart attack at Nallavalli on Sunday.
The farmer, father of two daughters, wanted to get his elder daughter married after selling a part of his land. However, with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) deciding to set up a dump yard here, no one was coming forward to purchase the land. Krishna, who had already borrowed some loans, was also feeling the pressure as the loaners were insisting on repayment.
His wife Lakshmi said they wanted to clear the debts besides marrying their elder daughter Maheshwari (18), who was in the second year of her graduation course. However, they could not find any buyer since the GHMC had started work on the dump yard.
Krishna collapsed at his residence on Sunday while discussing the same issue with Lakhsmi. He was rushed to the government hospital in Narsapur where he died while undergoing treatment.
Krishna used to participate in relay hunger strikes being organised by the joint action committee regularly. JAC treasurer Vijayaramakrishna said he used to enquire every day whether there were any chances that the government would withdraw the proposal. Vijyaramakrishna said many farmers have been facing a similar situation in Nallavally, Pyaranagar and other neighbouring villages since the GHMC started the dump yard works.
The villagers urged the government to shift the dump yard to another place. The farmers have been staging protests for 47 consecutive days at Nallavalli. Though the area witnessed heavy rains, the villagers continued the protest braving the rains on Sunday.
