Urea shortage sparks protests among Adilabad farmers
Farmers in Nirmal and Mancherial districts of erstwhile Adilabad are facing a severe urea shortage despite repeated protests. Limited stocks at cooperative societies have left hundreds without fertiliser, forcing many to return empty-handed and demand immediate government intervention

Nirmal/Mancherial: Urea crisis continues to haunt the farmers in erstwhile Adilabad district even as they stage various protests demanding the government to take steps to address the problem.
In the latest instance, farmers expressed dissatisfaction over shortage of urea at a primary agriculture cooperative society at Kaddampeddur mandal centre on Tuesday A large number of farmers belonging to several villages gathered at the society expecting they could buy urea from early morning. However, officials of the society distributed 440 bags to the farmers, disappointing others.
The farmers who could not purchase the urea expressed displeasure over the shortage of the fertilizer. They faulted the officials for failing to resolve the problem even after completion of over a month. They said that they were witnessing the crisis for the first time in recent times. They wanted the officials to ensure sufficient supply of the urea to the farmers.
Meanwhile, around 1,500 farmers were eagerly waiting for their turn to buy urea at a society in Thandur mandal centre in Mancherial district. However, 260 bags of the fertilizer were distributed to the farmers. The remaining farmers left the society dissatisfied. They regretted that they were facing hardships due to shortage of the urea.
