Hyderabad: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad (JNTU-H) has directed all its affiliated colleges to submit an affidavit stating their faculty members were possessing genuine certificates. The move by the university comes as there were several instances in the past of faculty producing fake certificates to get a job in the colleges.
As per the affidavit, which is to be submitted to the university at the time of faculty selection interviews, the colleges should take the responsibility of verifying the eligibility criteria and genuineness of the certificates of the candidates. The eligibility criteria should be as per the norms of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
If the recruited faculty members were found to be not qualified as per the AICTE or PCI norms or have produced a fake certificate at a later date, the college/institute would be liable for punitive action including disaffiliation, the university said in a circular issued to all colleges.
For selecting teaching staff in affiliated colleges, the university constitutes selection committees comprising six members with two each from management, university and subject experts. Presently, the candidates shortlisted by the college management are interviewed by the selection committees. Now, apart from scrutinising the eligibility criteria, the colleges should submit the affidavit to the university.
The selection committee meetings will be issued to colleges after receiving the affidavits by the University Academic Audit Cell, the JNTU-H said.
As per the affidavit, after scrutiny of applications based on the eligibility and depending on the number of eligible candidates, a screening test will be conducted, if necessary, and candidates will be shortlisted for interviews in the ratio of 1:4.
“There are instances of the faculty in the private colleges producing fake PhD degrees from universities of other States. So, we have made the college concerned responsible for verifying the genuineness of the certificates submitted by the candidates while appearing for the interviews. The university will also scrutinise the applications and certificates as well during the selection committee meetings,” said Dr Manzoor Hussain, registrar, JNTU-H.
Technical and Professional Institutes Employees Association Telangana State president V Balakrishna Reddy said the colleges should be made responsible for verifying the authenticity of the certificates whereas the eligibility criteria, as per AICTE/PCI norms, should be verified by the university.
“Not just limiting to the present faculty selection, it will be a good idea if the affidavit on the genuineness of the certificates is extended to all existing faculty members working in the affiliated colleges of the university,” Reddy added.
