Hyderabad: BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s alleged derogatory comment against his Cabinet colleague has drawn widespread condemnation from various quarters.
The BC Welfare Minister, along with Labour Minister G Vivek Venkatswamy, attended a programme in Jubilee Hills constituency on Sunday afternoon. SC and ST Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman was also scheduled to participate but arrived late to the event.
Irritated by the delay, Ponnam Prabhakar was purportedly heard making a derogatory remark. In a video circulating on social media, he is heard saying, “He is a buffalo and he does not know anything.”
Sharing the clip on X, BRS spokesperson Krishank Manne alleged, “Congress Minister calls his colleague, Scheduled Caste Minister Adluri Laxman, a buffalo, who has no value for life and for being late to their election campaign in Rahmathnagar of Jubilee Hills constituency.”
With the video going viral, Krishank further remarked, “After the blunder where a Congress Minister called his colleague Adluri Laxman a buffalo, the live streaming has been deleted. Why delete when you’ve done no wrong?”
Responding to the controversy, Ponnam Prabhakar accused the BRS social media team of twisting his comments. He clarified that his words were not directed at Adluri Laxman.
In a statement, the Minister asserted that he had not made any derogatory remark against the SC Welfare Minister, who hails from erstwhile Karimnagar district. He said the BRS team had deliberately distorted his comments to project them as if they were targeted at Laxman.
“In fact, as I had to fly to New Delhi, I made those comments to my staff regarding the delay in confirming my flight tickets,” Ponnam Prabhakar maintained.
